Crafted with Tradition
Before Borderland Rustic Hardware, finding authentic handmade iron
hardware in the Southwest was almost impossible. It wasn't until our founder, Dave Hannan, had a wooden gate installed on his property that everything changed. Being a skilled DIY'er at heart, Dave quickly noticed the gate would look far better with authentic, handmade iron hardware but after searching every local source, he
realized he'd have to go across the Mexican border, where traditional
blacksmiths still practice their craft.
What started as one gate turned into a mission. Dave spent years finding
and developing a team of traditional artisans in Northern Mexico,
slowly building the skilled network of blacksmiths who supply
Borderland's hardware today. To his surprise, neighbors quickly
noticed his new wrought iron hardware and after numerous compliments
and inquiries, Borderland Rustic Hardware was born.
Crafted with Tradition
At Borderland Rustic Hardware, we pride ourselves on offering handcrafted iron hardware created using authentic techniques and built to stand the test of time. Imbued with old-world charm, every clavo nail, hinge, bracket, pull, handle, and decorative adornment is
created by blacksmiths using traditional hot and cold forging methods.
Forging is a tried and true way of working with metal, one that offers
substantial benefits over modern metalworking techniques. However,
due to a shortage of experienced blacksmiths, this method has become
scarce and relatively expensive in the modern world. With years of experience in the hardware and export business, Dave built a process
that makes hand-forged products affordable for everyday customers,
while simultaneously supporting the craft of blacksmithing itself.
Our craftsmen are skilled masters of forging and metalworking,
handcrafting each product one at a time. The result is a quality and
authenticity that's evident at first glance, something mass-produced
hardware simply can't replicate.
Every purchase you make helps support our apprenticeship program, designed to ensure old-world blacksmithing techniques and knowledge are passed on to future generations, because the continuation of this traditional trade matters. Blacksmithing has been central to the human experience for thousands of years, and losing it would be a real loss to our culture.
Based in El Paso, Texas, we're proud to supply some of the most authentic
metalwork available in the entire Southwest region.
